£450K Raised Through Crowdfunding In Its First Year!

Community projects have raised more than £450,000 thanks to the West Sussex Crowd since its launch one year ago.

Of this more than £200,000 was donated by residents, local business and partner funds.

The crowdfunding platform has helped local charities, sports clubs and community interest companies gather funds and support.

And in the latest round of funding, groups have until Tuesday 28 May to pitch for a share of the county council’s £280,000 Community Initiative Fund (CIF).

Debbie Kennard, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Safer Stronger Communities, said: “Happy first birthday to West Sussex Crowd!

“I’m delighted with the success of the scheme and the impact it has made in a short space of time. It’s so rewarding to see the platform being adopted by a variety of groups to help realise their project ambitions across the county.”

The next meeting of the county council’s Environment, Communities and Fire Select Committee on 9 May will hear feedback about the scheme’s first year.

75 successful crowdfunding campaigns have included a comedy tour of care homes for people living with dementia, community festivals and upgrading community facilities.

Eligible groups pitching for a share of the Community Initiative Fund (CIF) will be considered at County Local Committee meetings on the following dates:
