Agreement To Progress Shoreham Community Project

ShorehamA project to redevelop a library, health centre and vacant care home in Shoreham has received full partnership support.

A collective approach has been agreed to redevelop land at Pond Road, as part of the One Public Estate (OPE) West Sussex programme One Public Estate

The project will involve building a new and enhanced health centre, a new library and community hub and other public services, in conjunction with the Shoreham Community Centre.

A meeting earlier this week included representatives from organisations including West Sussex County Council, Coastal West Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group, Adur and Worthing Councils, NHS Property Services, NHS Improvement, Harbour View Heathcare GP surgery and St Mary de Haura church.

The meeting was facilitated by East Worthing and Shoreham MP, Tim Loughton.

All the organisations committed to making rapid progress with the project, a major opportunity for health and wellbeing provision for the local community.

Leader of West Sussex County Council, Louise Goldsmith, said: “This is a very exciting project and exactly what the OPE programme is all about – organisations working jointly for the benefit of local communities.  It is great that we now have all the key partners in agreement on the way forward. We look forward to updating the local community as the plans now progress.”

Work will now get underway to look at long-term health provision requirements for the Shoreham area, as well as viability and feasibility work on an agreed development option. As a first phase a contractor will be appointed by the county council to demolish the vacant care home on the site.
