Brighton Housing Trust (BHT) urges those who can afford it to donate their Winter Fuel Allowance to BHT’s Christmas Appeal.
Brighton Housing Trust, as part of its Christmas Appeal, is calling on those who can afford it to donate their Winter Fuel Allowance to help pay for the fuel bill at First Base Day Centre.
The fuel bill at the Centre is around £3,000 each year.
Simon Hughes, the Manager of First Base said: “At this time of year, when temperatures plummet, it is important that people sleeping on the streets can come to First Base, get warm, have a hot shower, a cooked meal and can get clean and dry clothes. These things most of us take for granted, but providing them does not come cheap.
“Already this year five people have donated their Winter Fuel Allowances to BHT, four towards the running costs of First Base, a fifth to BHT’s Brighton Advice Centre.
“If another ten people, those who feel they really don’t need this benefit, were to donate it to BHT, our fuel bill would be paid, not just for Christmas, but for the whole year.”
