BLOG: Opportunities To Challenge Yourself For Charity

This weekend saw Brighton Marathon take place as part of a weekend of exciting sporting challenges, raising money for various charities. You might have missed your chance to join in the fun this year but there is no shortage other Brighton-based sporting challenges to get stuck into.

By taking part in a challenge you can really make a difference through raising funds – and awareness – for a charity that is close to your heart. This can give you the motivation you need to reach your sporting goals.

Here are just some of the challenges you can take part in to push yourself and raise money for a good cause:

London to Brighton Bike Ride – 17th June 2018

Do you love cycling? If you want to take your hobby to the next level and support the British Heart Foundation then the London to Brighton Bike ride is the perfect challenge for you.

Get the train down to London and then spend the day cycling back down to the coast with hundreds of other keen fundraisers; maybe even team up with some friends to complete the challenge together.

The Brighton and Hove Triathlon is an event for the multi-talented: this challenge sees participants engage in a sea swim, a cycle ride along the sea front and then a run along the promenade.

However, there are different distances to choose from so you can find the challenge that is right for you, depending on your fitness and confidence levels. There is also a Children’s Triathlon if you wanted to get the whole family involved.

Paddle Around The Pier partner with charities each year who they fundraise for during the event and previous recipients of donations include The Wave Project, RNLI, BSLSC.

Race for Life – Brighton 5k – 30th June 2018

As women-only events, organised by Cancer Research UK and taking place all over the UK, Race for Life is a unique way to raise funds to research all forms of cancer with other women.

This Brighton-based run is only for 5k, an achievable distance, so you can still raise funds even if you aren’t a fitness guru and all ages and abilities are able to take part. You don’t even have to run if you don’t want to, you can jog or walk your way to the finish line.

Brighton Half Marathon – 24th February 2019

If you aren’t confident enough to take on a full marathon just yet, why not start by signing up to the Brighton Half Marathon?

Brighton Half Marathon is organised and delivered by the local charity Sussex Beacon, and in the 1990s the first funds raised by the challenge where used to build The Sussex Beacon centre. You can run for the Sussex Beacon by joining Team Beacon for a reduced entry fee, or you can select your own charity to fundraise for.

Organising you own sporting challenge? Then don’t forget to send your story to Giving Times. We love hearing about people doing daring things in the area, big or small, and can help spread the word!
