John Lunt, Brighton and Hove Triathlon’s Event Director has picked up a lifetime achievement award from the London Region of Triathlon England for his dedication to the sport at their regional award ceremony.
John, who set up the London region in 1986 has been working in the sport of triathlon for over 32 years and was Competition manager delivering the London 2012 Olympic Triathlon. John was on the board of British Triathlon in the early years.
On receiving the award, John said, “I am very honoured to be awarded the first ever London Region lifetime achievement award. Multisport events has been my passion for a very long time and I wanted to make triathlon accessible to everyone not just the elite. This was one of my reasons for setting up the Brighton and Hove Triathlon. Brighton is the perfect location for a swim, a bike and a run!”
Debbie Clarke, Chairman of the Triathlon England, London Region Committee who presented John with the award said, “John is dedicated and passionate about Triathlon and has been an important member of the London committee helping the sport flourish and grow in the region.”
As an innovative, professional race organiser, John initiated and developed many multisport events that have contributed significantly to the growth of the Triathlon at all levels. John founded FROGs, (Forum of Race Organisers), in the early days and is still contributing to the sport as President of Triathlon England’s London Regional Committee. He was retained to deliver the first appearance of triathlon as a programme sport in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester 2002, which led onto five very successful ITU World Cup events in Salford.
In 1990, John founded Human Race which became one of the UK’s largest triathlon organisers and was instrumental in creating well over 40 events in triathlon, running and open water swimming events.
John left Human Race in 2012 and set up his own multisport consultancy which now counts the Brighton and Hove Triathlon and Brighton’s Run2Music as its flagship events. John was also the event director at the first event Dubrovnik Triathlon.
