Brighton Dome Christmas Circus Show Explores The Joys Of Letting Go

HOMEThis Christmas, audiences at Brighton Dome Concert Hall will be treated to HOME, an ingenious new circus show from the trailblazing company of world-class performers, musicians and acrobats behind FLOWN – a huge hit at Brighton Festival 2014 and again at Brighton Dome in 2015.

Exhilarating and enchanting, with a lively, moving, metallic set and absorbing live score, HOME delves into the fantastical lives of a neighbourhood of acrobats who, in the course of a day’s misadventures, discover surprising new connections with each other, and with the world outside.

Performed with heartfelt humour and genuine honesty, Pirates of the Carabina bring to the stage all the skills, quirks and qualities that make their shows so much more than the sum of their individual performers. Featuring vertical-swinging trapeze, never-ending ropes, a spinning carousel, and a very temperamental staircase, HOME presents a playful, poignant tale about the futility of grand plans, and the joys of letting go.

Company Director Shaena Brandel: “There’s a lot of unique circus acts in the show: we take a lot of things and turn them on their head. Big parts of the set move for example, and we have an act that we call vertical trapeze that it’s unlikely anyone will have seen before. Brighton Dome’s a great venue for circus and we had a great reaction to Flown with really lovely audiences, so I’m excited about coming back”

Pirates of the Carabina specialise in theatrical, highly technical circus with a very strong live music ethos. Comprised of 15 highly experienced and committed circus artists, riggers, musicians and technicians from across the world, Pirates of the Carabina came together for a one-off commissioned performance of FLOWN in 2011 at Glastonbury Festival. As a result, Glastonbury Arts Commission is now an established award, offering a platform for new circus companies.

Group ownership is essential to Pirates of the Carabina’s approach: the company believe that collaboration is the key to producing work that is at once dynamic and sincere, and which directly connects with audiences. The company specialises in uniquely inventive acts and developing stunts that strive to push circus technique, theatrical narrative and the mechanics of performance beyond the ordinary
