Beci Callow, is running the Brighton Half Marathon for BHT’s First Base Day Centre, which supports people who are sleeping rough or insecurely housed in Brighton and Hove, to move off the streets.
Beci explained why she has chosen to raise funds for BHT: “Every day when I cycle to work I see people bedded down in shop doorways and anywhere they can get shelter.
“Brighton is a town of plenty, so it is especially sad that we have the highest number of rough sleepers anywhere outside London.
“I have chosen to run and raise money for BHT’s First Base Day Centre because the centre offers the facilities most of us take for granted, toilets and showers, food, tea and coffee, somewhere warm and dry to go.
“But First Base does so much more. Staff help people to move off the streets for good. Last year First Base was open for 288 days and they helped 305 people into accommodation.
“Please sponsor me so that I can help raise money to help First Base to stay open and to continue its work.”
Jo Berry, Head of Fundraising at BHT said: “It’s support like this, from residents of the local community that help our services stay open. Beci’s commitment for running for BHT’s First Base Day Centre is admirable.”
