Brighton & Hove Music & Arts To Offer Music Summer Schools This July

Brighton & Hove Music & Arts (BHMA), part of Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival, provides inclusive music and arts education and performance opportunities for all children and young people across the city, and will be running Summer Schools this July.

BHMA Music Summer School runs from 6 – 20 July at Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts. 18 different courses for children aged 6 – 16 will be offered, with over 400 children and young people taking part in making music. Course fees begin at £30 for a one day course, with bursaries available for applicants from families on low incomes. The closing date for applications is 7 June 2019.

The Summer School is set to be a fun and exciting celebration of youth music, including tuition for complete beginners in ukulele, singing and music technology, alongside workshops, bands and ensembles for more experienced young musicians. Students work with highly-trained and friendly music leaders in a professional, state-of-the-art performance venue. Each course culminates in a celebratory performance and the opportunity to practice playing in front of an audience of family and friends.

Beyond the summer, BHMA run music lessons, ensembles, projects, workshops and orchestras across the city, seeking to provide all local children and young people, whatever their background, with high quality music and arts opportunities. BHMA believe that music has the potential to transform lives. Whether it is through the enjoyment of mastering instrumental and vocal skills, the excitement of developing creative ideas, the experience of seeing and hearing world class musicians or the thrill of performing.

Peter Chivers, Head of Brighton & Hove Music & Arts commented:

“We believe passionately in the many benefits of children and young people taking part in music and aim to support them to achieve their musical potential through our programme of high quality, creative courses. Being involved in music can be a truly fulfilling and lifelong experience that extends beyond the classroom.”
