Eastbourne Council Help Disabled People Live Independently

wheelchair-749985_960_720Cabinet councillors at Eastbourne Borough Council have reinforced the authority’s commitment to help disabled people live independently by adopting a new joint policy with Lewes District Council.

The new Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) Policy sets out the criteria to help disabled people pay for adaptations in their homes.

Under the policy, the council has used its discretionary powers prompted by increases to the Government’s Better Care Fund, which finances the DFG. This means that the maximum DFG a household could receive will be increased from £30,000 to £50,000 and there will be a £8,000 threshold before a means test is needed, or if the adaptation includes only one prescribed item.
