In celebration of International Women’s Day, Brighton & Hove Triathlon has announced Heart will be sponsoring the WomenOnly Wave of Brighton’s very first race in conjunction with Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign.
The race organisers are passionate about encouraging increased participation of women in sport through triathlon and supporting women in improving confidence, meeting new people and taking part in a new challenge. Heart will be leading the warm up before the race with their lively Heart Angels and double decker music bus along the promenade.
Brighton and Hove Triathlon Project Director, Lisa Clayton said, “Having Heart as a sponsor of the WomenOnly Wave brings such a sense of fun to our race, and I personally cannot wait to see our lovely ladies having a great day out in Brighton”.
Ian Mckenna, Regional Managing Director at Heart said, “Everyone here is really excited to support the WomenOnly Wave, and our Heart Angels can’t wait to lead the warm up on the day! We love backing events like this, it’s great to see people challenging themselves and getting fit whilst having fun!”.
Supported by Triathlon England, the wave will run in conjunction with the nationally successful, This Girl Can campaign, which has inspired thousands of women to take part in sport. This Girl Can will have an inspiring presence over the weekend and the wave will provide a safe space for women first timers or experienced, to race against other likeminded ladies and will be supported by free-to-attend triathlon training sessions in the lead up to the event in Brighton.
Organiser Lisa Clayton says, “We hope to inspire hundreds of women to wiggle and jiggle around our triathlon course with women just like them. It is really important to us that our race is approachable for those who would like to try triathlon for the first time. Our Super Sprint distance provides the perfect way to build confidence and have a taster of triathlon before working towards to longer distances.”
Jenny Vincent, Triathlon England National Lead for Women’s participation, said: “Triathlon England are very pleased to be supporting the This Girl Can wave at the Brighton and Hove Triathlon. This event is part of our UK project to increase female participation in triathlon, using the campaign to support our events and encourage more females to give our fantastic and friendly sport a go. One of three exciting This Girl Can waves across the country in 2016, the Brighton and Hove Triathlon promises to be an inspiring event, and I am looking forward to welcoming all our This Girl Can triathletes to Brighton.”
