Hold A Get Together In Celebration And Create New Memories

For many, The Big Get Together is a way to celebrate the life of a special someone, on a special date, in their own unique way.

Worthing resident, Tanya Clubb, 37, held a Big Get Together in 2018 in memory of her sister, Sammie Chapman. Sammie had been diagnosed with cervical cancer in March 2016 and on 22 August 2016 the family received the devastating news that her illness was terminal. Sammie, aged 28, was quickly referred to St Barnabas House where sadly she passed away after just three days at the hospice.

Tanya said: “I held a Big Get Together because I wanted to say thank you to St Barnabas House for the care and attention that they showed my sister and our family. I’ve never seen more love than she had in those three days with St Barnabas. She was able to see all of her family and friends and everyone was able to say their goodbyes in the most dignified way possible.

“Nothing will ever repay St Barnabas for that, but holding a Big Get Together was my way of ensuring that other people can have the same experience as we did.”

Tanya adds: “I would recommend to anyone that they hold a Big Get Together. It’s a great way to bring together lots of different people and do something amazing.”

All money raised from donations will go towards providing free hospice care to people from across the Worthing, Adur, Arun and Henfield area. In 2018, The Big Get Together supporters raised an incredible total of £10,984 – this equates to the cost of 7 days of care provided by the St Barnabas House Day Hospice.

Wendy Bardsley, Community Fundraising Manager at St Barnabas House, said: “It’s so easy to get involved. Pick a date and get together with friends, family, neighbours or colleagues and hold a barbeque, coffee morning, garden party or something unique that grabs your imagination.”

“The Big Get Together is all about having fun with the people you love. It’s about celebrating the past as well as living for the moment. It’s the perfect way to celebrate a loved one on a special date or anniversary and to take the time tomake happy memories with your friends and family.”
