Horsham 10th Piazza Italia event supports local children’s charities

Horsham is getting ready to host its 10th Piazza Italia event, beginning Good Friday, 25 March, supporting three local charities Chestnut Tree House, The Children’s Trust and Winston’s Wish across each day of the Easter weekend.

The Horsham Piazza Italia, dubbed “the biggest and best free Easter event in the South East”, will showcase Horsham’s town centre in a celebration of all things Italian.

Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice will be the chosen charity on Good Friday, the opening day of the event. Hospice staff and volunteers will be raising awareness of the hospice’s services and the Chestnut Tree House Lottery, as well as holding an Easter Egg Tombola and taking their collection buckets out and about during the day. They are hoping to raise £1,500 on the day. This amount would be enough to cover the costs of over 5 hours of all care services provided by the hospice, both at the House near Arundel and in families’ own homes across Sussex and South East Hampshire.

Organised by Horsham District Council and numerous partners, there will be plenty to see and do for all the family.

On Sunday 13 March around 20 unique cars and 3 Italian motorbikes will be completing an exciting District Tour to promote the main Piazza Italia event. Chestnut Tree House supporters Lev Osman and Greg Wheeler are set to join the tour, driving their stunning Ferrari Enzo and Lamborghini cars. Setting off from Horsham at 10:30am, the District Tour will pass through beautiful Horsham District towns and villages before returning to Horsham Town Centre.

Chestnut Tree House Fundraisers Terrina Barnes and Jo Smith, said: “We are so grateful to Horsham District Council for inviting Chestnut Tree House to be part of this wonderful event. We hope that as many visitors as possible can pass by our stand on Good Friday and find out about our services and the many ways to support our wonderful charity.

Our thanks also go to the Chestnut Tree House volunteers who will be helping with our stand, and to Lev and Greg for taking part in the District Tour and helping, as always, to raise much needed awareness of Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice.”

A spokesman for Horsham District Council’s events team said: “We are delighted to be supporting Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice on the opening day of what is shaping up to be our best Piazza Italia event yet. We hope that the District Tour will generate a lot of attention and excitement in the run up to the event and we look forward to welcoming visitors from far and wide to enjoy a fantastic Easter weekend in Horsham.”
