On Friday 16 June 2017, social care provider, Avenues Group, and local lifestyle health and leisure service, Mytime Active, will be holding a community event in the Great Hall at Bromley’s Civic Centre from 7pm until 10pm to mark the half-way point of the local community project, It Takes 2.
Bromley locals – from Councillors to local residents – are invited to join in a fun evening of country and line-dancing to see the progress of the project which connects those facing the greatest barriers to participate in community life with fellow residents. Through sharing a mutual interest the feeling of loneliness which many of us experience at some point in our life can be reduced. Some wonderful matches based on shared hobbies and skills – from swimming to gardening; from sharing a love of music to joining a walking group have been made so far.
Anyone in the community can take part and It Takes 2 is looking to match more people. Experienced project workers assist with the introductions and then pairs meet for around three hours a week to enjoy their shared interest together.
Martin Chittell, Practice Development Lead – Community, for Avenues Group says;
“Research we have undertaken shows that people we have the privilege of supporting want to be a part of the communities where they live. People want to be able to exchange with their neighbours and fellow citizens and make a valid contribution.
It Takes 2 has created the space so that people in Bromley can share more time with each other and look beyond societal labels such as ‘disabled’
None of this would be possible without the vibrant Bromley community, the amazing people we are privileged to support, Avenues dedicated support staff and The Big Lottery all thanks must go to them.”
Members of the public are welcome to attend.
Tickets are £5.00 and available from Martin Chittell at Martin.Chittell@avenuesgroup.org.uk.
There will be a cash bar.
