Sussex children’s charity Rockinghorse is encouraging supporters to take part in a walking challenge to raise funds for their 50th anniversary appeal.
Rockinghorse is looking for an army of walkers to take part in the challenge across the beautiful South Downs in the West Sussex countryside, to raise funds towards their Sussex Giving for Sussex Children appeal. The charity aims to raise £500,000 in 2017 which will be split between 10 children’s centres and paediatric services in Sussex.
They’ve teamed up with Just Walk as an official charity partner of the event which takes place on Saturday 13 May at Goodwood Racecourse in Chichester. Suitable for all fitness levels, participants can choose from a walking distance to match their ability, with walks ranging from 10km through to 60km.
Hannah Seltzer, Events Fundraising Co-ordinator at Rockinghorse Children’s Charity, says: “By taking part in Just Walk, you can help ensure that children’s services across Sussex are the best they possibly can be for our children now and in the future. We are delighted to be an official charity partner of the event and are really looking forward to it.”
Those already signed-up to the challenge include the family of the late Dr Trevor Mann, founder of Rockinghorse and the Trevor Mann Baby Unit in Brighton. His son Dr Nick Mann, and daughter Rosamond Hallett, will be joined by relatives who will be taking part in Just Walk in his memory.
Rosamond says: “Rockinghorse makes a real difference in enhancing the quality of care for sick children and their families. My father, Trevor would be proud of their achievements and he loved walking on the Downs with my mother, Joy. Just Walk combines a fun day out in the countryside with supporting Rockinghorse in this special year.”
Registration for the event starts at £15 and Rockinghorse is asking its participants to raise £200 in sponsorship towards their 50th anniversary appeal.
