Local Solicitors Offer Appointments In Return For Donation to St Barnabas House’s Will Writing Appeal

Local solicitors will offer appointments in return for a donation to St Barnabas House in October as part of the hospice’s annual Will Writing Appeal.

A number of local solicitors across the Arun, Adur, Worthing and Horsham areas are offering to write or update Wills in return for a donation to the hospice. A full list of participating solicitors can be found at www.stbh.org.uk/willwritingappeal.

Why you should make a Will

A Will is the only way of making sure that those you can about are provided for in the way you wish after your death. If you die without a Will, a court will appoint administrators to deal with the distribution of everything you own. They don’t know your wishes and you will have no control over how they divide your estate.

Making sure your Will is valid and accurate

A Will is a legal document and trying to write your own can be difficult. One small mistake and it may be invalid. That’s why it is always best to have your Will written up by an experienced solicitor. The St Barnabas Will Writing Appeal enables you to do this, while at the same time supporting your local hospice.

Keeping your Will up-to-date

Keeping your Will up-to-date is as important as making one. Wishes, circumstances and family arrangements can change over the years – influenced by factors such as marriage and divorce, the birth of children and grandchildren, or receiving an inheritance. Any of these events would make an updated Will essential.

Why gifts in Wills are so important to St Barnabas House

St Barnabas House is a hospice based in Worthing that provides specialist palliative care to adults with advanced progressive life-limiting illnesses, both within the hospice and in the comfort of patients’ own homes.

The cost of providing all of St Barnabas’ care services amount to over £6 million every year. Patients are not charged for their care and the hospice receives limited statutory funding.

While you do not have to leave a gift in your Will, it is worth remembering the care of 1 in 4 of St Barnabas House patients is funded by gifts in Wills. Your support could make a big difference.
