On Sunday 3 June a passionate woman brought two of her hobbies together and run the Worthing 10k for WCHP, a local charity helping the homeless and insecurely housed. So far, she has raised £130 for Worthing Churches Homeless Projects.
Sharon said this of her challenge “As a local resident, Worthing Churches Homeless Project is a charity very much close to my heart. I work in a Local Authority setting and sadly am too familiar with the challenges and pressures of funding. I am a firm believer that local homelessness can only be solved by everyone in the community working together in a positive and constructive way.
“Running is a passion of mine and participating in the Worthing 10k felt a fitting way to support the cause. The organisers of the event did such a great job on Sunday – everyone who had a role to play should feel proud.”
To raise additional funds for the charity, on Saturday 16th June Worthing Churches Homeless Projects will be holding their annual flag day in Goring, Findon and Worthing Town Centres to raise money and awareness for the charity. Volunteer collectors will be out and about all day to meet with the public and accept donations.
Live music and performers including bands, solo and duo acts, acoustic acts and dancers will compliment the day. Including but not limited to performances from RG Winfield Blues Band, 168 No Sleep a 4-piece pop-rock covers band, Junkyard Sons a 6-piece original blues-rock band and various student bands in short sets from Shoreham All Stars. Areas with performances include, South Street Square, Montague Parade and Montague Place where David from Shoreham All Stars will be with his band bus that he has kindly loaned us for the day.
The event has grown each year with the help of volunteer organiser Richard Amey. This year many acts have been added to the line-up and we have the support from Shoreham All Stars.
Flag Day is one of the easiest ways to get involved with fundraising for Worthing Churches Homeless Projects. It helps engage the whole community and make them aware of the issues their community must face. Worthing Churches Homeless Projects recognise that homelessness is a community issue that needs everyone to work together to resolve it.
