The Sussex charity’s special event is open to all ages and an Early Bird discount is available until Friday 20 May, so the hospice is encouraging guests to book early.
Setting off from The Dolphin, in Haywards Heath, at 10.30pm, the Hospice’s annual night walk has been revamped enabling as many people as possible (including families) to take part in memory of a loved one and help raise much-needed funds for St Peter & St James Hospice. As well as starting slightly earlier than previous years, there is an additional 2km route around Victoria Park for the youngsters.
All are invited to dress up in sparkles and glitter, get together with family and friends and join the Hospice for the biggest fundraising night in its calendar. Everyone taking part will receive a finisher’s memento, delicious breakfast and a special star lantern to carry and light up the route.
As Charity of the Year, this year’s event is being sponsored by MetLife and the hospice is extremely grateful for their support in putting on this special event.
Andy Nibloe, Head of Compliance at MetLife, said: “Our employees are enjoying raising funds for the Hospice and we are delighted to confirm our sponsorship of this flagship summer event.”
All the Hospice services are free of charge to patients and loved ones and St Peter & St James relies on its local community for 86% of its funds, as just 14% comes from the Government. St Peter & St James cares for patients from Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Uckfield and surrounding villages. With a population of 200,000, if every person in the catchment area gave just £1 a month this would nearly cover the running costs.
Giles Witcomb, Head of Fundraising at St Peter & St James Hospice, said: “We’d really love to see lots more people from our community taking part and supporting the hospice at our new Star Walk. It’s a brilliant event, full of fun, and is a great way of showing support for all work we do that we provide free to our patients in Burgess Hill, Haywards Heath, Lewes, Uckfield and surrounding villages.
“If we’re caring for one of your loved ones, then please join the Star Walk. We’ve been providing our services for over 40 years and it’s only with the community’s help that we can continue to care for our patients in years to come.”
