London-based charity Missing People, which runs the only national helpline dedicated to supporting missing people and their families, is celebrating an extra-special donation.
Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised an extra £250,000 for Missing People, taking the total raised by players for the charity since 2009 to over £4 million. Funds raised by players have allowed the charity to grow its reach and help even more missing children and adults, whilst also providing vital support for their families and friends left behind. The charity’s specialist helpline, run by staff and volunteers, provides round the clock emotional and practical support in addition to harnessing “people power” to find vulnerable missing people quickly through nationwide publicity appeals.
Helen Alves, Head of Central Services at the charity said: “The ongoing generous support from players of People’s Postcode Lottery means that the charity can be here for free, day and night, for people in crisis.
Our helpline really is a lifeline for people going through some of the darkest times imaginable. Thanks to players, we can be here at the end of the phone to listen and support them. We’re delighted by the news of this additional award and on behalf of all of the staff and volunteer team at the charity, I’d like to say thank you.”
Clara Govier, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery said: “It’s heartening to know that this award of £250,000 will have a powerful impact on the lives of missing people and their families. We’re thrilled that our players are helping to make vulnerable missing people safe and reconnect with their loved ones around the country.”
Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have raised a total of £175.5 million for charities across the UK to date.
Missing people are currently appealing for 117 people in the South who have been refereed by the police. The total number of missing people is possibly higher.
About Missing People
Missing People is the only charity in the UK which is dedicated to bringing the 250,000 children and adults that go missing every year back together with their families. Some missing people you will have heard of, but many more you won’t. For their families, life without them can be a desperate and unbearable struggle. We are there for them 24 hours a day, every day of the year, at the end of a phone, text or email, ready to use every means possible to search for and find their missing loved ones and to provide vital on-going support to families where the agonising wait turns into years, not just days.
