Dedicated volunteer Elsie Woolmer has been remembered for her years of devotion to the Langney Village Hall Association.
The association has named its brand-new hall in Etchingham Road after Elsie, who was a key volunteer at the village hall for many years.
The Elsie Woolmer Hall, a newly refurbished hall and kitchen at Langney Village Hall, was opened recently by Councillor Gill Mattock.
The new facility, funded by grants from Eastbourne Borough Council, the National Lottery and the association’s own fundraising efforts, can accommodate 60 people and is now available for hire.
Carol Beard, Treasurer of the Langney Village Hall Association, said: “This was a much-needed facility for the local community and it is already being put to good use by local groups. We are very grateful to everyone who helped in our fundraising efforts and we’re delighted to see the hall up and running. Elsie would have been very proud!”
Local organisations, including the Eastbourne and District Dog Training Club and Langney Community Church, are already using the new space.
