Light Up A Life with Martlets Hospice this Christmas

The registered charity, Martlets Hospice are inviting residents across Brighton & Hove to join them at a series of events to remember their loved ones during the festive period.

Every Christmas the Martlets host Light up a Life services around Brighton & Hove to give families and friends the chance to celebrate the lives of their loved ones during the festive season – when memories feel somehow more poignant.

By taking part in Light up a Life, the local charity believe that not only do people remember their loved ones, but their support ensures that essential funds are raised for the Martlets Hospice. Every year the Hospice supports hundreds of people throughout Brighton & Hove, free of charge, who are coming to terms with the impact of a life limiting illness, either for themselves or someone they love.

Claire Docteur, from the Martlets Hospice, said: “Light up a Life ceremonies are an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the lives of people we miss as we join in with carols and listen to readings. We also light candles as a symbol of remembrance and love.

“Many people come to Light up a Life because they were supported by care from the Martlets, but you don’t need to have any connection to the hospice to attend these ceremonies, everyone is welcome to join us. We know that for many people it’s comforting to join others who have been through a similar experience of loss and bereavement.”

In return for a donation, supporters can leave a dedication to their loved ones, which will be included in a special Martlets Book of Remembrance. The Book of Remembrance will be displayed in the Sanctuary at the Martlets Hospice throughout December and will also be available to view on the charity’s website. Donations and support will also help to ensure that the Martlets can keep caring for patients and families who need them now and in the future.
