Team Pestalozzi Brings International Flare to Hastings Half Marathon

On the 19th March 2017, a team of 25 runners from the Sedlescombe based charity, Pestalozzi, ran the 33rd Hastings Half Marathon and 17 children took part in the Mini Run in their Pestalozzi shirts.

After months of training and collecting sponsorship Team Pestalozzi has raised just over £4000 for the education charity, and donations are still coming in.

Fundraising Officer, James Bacon, commented, “Team Pestalozzi encapsulated the multi-cultural theme that runs through the Pestalozzi mission. It was wonderful to see our diverse team of runners adding a colourful global dimension to the event. We would like to thank all of the supporters and external runners who donned a Pestalozzi shirt and ran for us on the day and all those who cheered them on around the course.”

Local firm, Westridge Construction Limited, generously sponsored the team’s high Pelozzi _2_ 6199 crop (002)performance running shirts for the second year in a row. The Pestalozzi student runners also expressed their thanks to the local community who made much needed donations of trainers and running gear, especially to Vikki Banks who helped them train.

The money raised from Team Pestalozzi’s sponsorship will go towards the provision of educational scholarships for future Pestalozzi students. Pestalozzi student runner Nidup Dorji was interviewed at the finish line by Meridian and said he was delighted to have this chance to give something back.

Pestalozzi student, Mario Manalu, from Indonesia reflected on the day “It was superb. The crowds cheered me up. I got a boost when kids high-fived me and I was so happy and proud to run the last kilometre with the Indonesian flag. Thank you to the other runners too, for supporting us; I hope you enjoyed the run as much as I did.”
