Adults with sight loss will be welcomed at monthly sports sessions at King Alfred Leisure Centre in Hove. Sports adapted for people with sight loss will include table tennis, boccia and kurling (haven’t heard of it? Try it.)
ESAB-VIABLE and Freedom Leisure will run the sessions, supported by Brighton and Hove Healthy Lifestyles. The sessions will be on the second Tuesday of each month in June (11th), July (9th), August (13th) and September (10th). Start 5.30pm, finish 6.30pm. If there is sufficient demand, sessions will be extended through to the end of the year.
British Blind Sport research shows that visually impaired people are often more likely to participate in a new activity and have a more positive experience when they are doing so with other visually impaired people. At sessions run by ESAB-VIABLE and Freedom Leisure last year, one participant said that she felt much safer when sessions are run by people experienced in sight loss, and more comfortable with other people with sight loss, than if she went to a regular club.
These sessions are available for those aged 18 years and above.
Sessions cost £2. Booking is not required. The contact for public enquiries is firstname.lastname@example.org, telephone 01273 294589
