They decided to support the Discovery Centre after a team of Waitrose senior staff, led by Crowborough manager Matthew Street, spent a day volunteering at Rye Harbour Nature Reserve with Reserve Manager Dr Barry Yates.
Matthew said: “We wanted to do something practical to help with nature conservation, and had a fantastic time clearing the reedbeds. But we’d like to do more. That’s why we’re keen to support the campaign for the Discovery Centre in our stores.”
Reedbeds are home to some exciting wildlife including the rare bittern, whose booming call can be heard from over two miles away.
Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is one of the most spectacular places in Britain to see wildlife. The Discovery Centre, a joint project between Sussex Wildlife Trust and the Friends of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve, will encourage visitors’ enjoyment all year round.
Look out for the ‘Discovery Centre Community Matters’ boxes in your local Waitrose stores, where you can cast your vote, using the token you collect each time you shop.
Anyone interested in learning more about the Discovery Centre can request a monthly newsletter to keep them posted about sightings of some of the outstanding wildlife at the reserve, news of upcoming events to support the Discovery Centre and ways to donate to the Appeal. ryeharbourdiscoverycentre.org.uk
