YMCA Downslink looking for local heroes for sponsored Sleep Easy sleepout

The Sussex-based housing charity YMCA DownsLink Group is asking people to spend one night sleeping out under the stars on Friday 18 March and raise vital funds for their work with disadvantaged young people.

The aim of the Sleep Easy event is simple: give up your warm bed for one night and help young homeless people get back on their feet. It won’t be warm or comfortable but the Sleep Easy Sleepouts have raised thousands of pounds for YMCAs nationally and this is an opportunity to do something remarkable for the community.YMCA Sleeps

Although Brighton & Hove is a prosperous place there are many local young people who, for a range of reasons, find themselves with nowhere to call home. Last year YMCA DownsLink Group housed over 550 young people who would otherwise have been homeless. The charity works hard to help these young people rebuild their lives, but funding is a constant challenge. The Sleep Easy event can raise significant funds to help.

Pete Brayne, a Sleep Easy veteran says, “A single night outside cannot compare with being homeless, but lying awake under the stars at 2am is surprisingly impactful. If you have never done this before I strongly recommend giving it a go. You only live once and you will help raise thousands of pounds in support of the YMCA’s fantastic work with homeless young people.”
