Enterprise Meaning is an event will take the form of a showcase for Brighton’s social enterprises to interact with young people in Brighton. The event will be organised and managed by The Bevy. Lasting two hours, there will be speakers, stalls, free refreshments and entertainment.
The aim is to show young people in Brighton and Hove the potential of social enterprise as a pathway to direct and develop their personal passions and entrepreneurial skills. And as a way of introducing the city’s social enterprises to young people, hopefully providing the kind of contacts that may lead to work experience, mentoring, and networking for the young people attending.
Brighton Aldridge Community Academy is the secondary school that serves Moulsecoomb and Bevendean, the housing estates in which The Bevy is located. The event will take place in the main assembly hall. The school will organise the arrangement of the hall furniture to facilitate the showcase and provide refreshments for the evening made by Baca’s catering students
The Bevy will recruit local social enterprises to attend the evening as stall holders and encourage stallholders to plan some activities to engage the young people who attend. The Bevy has good links with Brighton’s social enterprises, not least following a successful event in Exeter Street Hall as part of Meaning Fringe 2017
The Bevy will be inviting the city’s secondary schools and colleges, including the private sector, aiming principally at business and enterprise studies students. It will be an open event though so any young people who want to come will be able to attend.
The Bevy will organise speakers and entertainment and highlight UnLtd’s work with young people including Spaces 4 Change. The Bevy will design and print a programme or flyer to include a programme for the evening and include contact details of social enterprises who participate. BACA’s media academy is keen to be involved regarding photography, filming, live streaming and social media output on the evening.
